Norske Skog contributes areas for nature conservation

16.07.2021

Norske Skog contributes areas for nature conservation.

Norske Skog Skogn sells 200 acres of wetland area, which is currently regulated for industrial purposes, to the Norwegian Environment Agency. The area is located south of the Hotran River, and will in its entirety be regulated for nature conservation purposes.

- We are very pleased to be able to cede the wetland area south of Hotranelva to the Norwegian Environment Agency, as an important contribution to ensuring lasting protection of important wetland areas for migratory birds, says Bjørn Einar Ugedal, CEO of Norske Skog Skogn.

The Norwegian Environment Agency writes in its press release:
The Norwegian Environment Agency perceives the process with Norske Skog Skogn as constructive. The starting point is an area regulated for industrial purposes, where approximately 200 acres will now be sold to the Norwegian Environment Agency with a view to protection, while the rest of the area north of Hotranelva will be used for industrial purposes.
